The University’s Historical Archive
The Historical Archive of the University of Crete (H.A.U.C) is functioning as a department of the University of Crete Library and aims at collecting and preserving of any kind of documents relevant to the history of the University as well as its today's identity.
In more detail its main objectives are:
- Preserving, archiving (by classification, description and conservation) and making available to any researcher or person interested in the inactive or semi-active material (any kind of document, printed or audiovisual or digitized material or archive), which have been produced or received by the University of Crete (including all its Faculties and Departments, bodies, administrative services, workshops, working or student unions or groups of the University).
- Identifying, preserving, documenting, acquiring, reproducing, archiving and making available to researchers or any person interested in the any kind of archival material relevant to the University of Crete and is owned by current or former members of the University of Crete community (teaching staff, students, employs), corporal bodies or private persons.
- Collecting oral accounts of former members of the University community related to the history, the life and the relations of the University with the local communities of Heraklion and Rethymnon.
The operation of the Historical Archive of the University of Crete started in the spring of 2002. For the implementation of its objectives the Historical Archive is addressed to all those persons or organizations that possess material one way or another relevant to the University of Crete, that could illuminate any aspects of the university life (documents, photographs, video films, cassettes etc) and is asking them to notify it and allow its reproduction (photo static, photographic or electronic).
