[+] Trial access to the ProQuest Academic Complete database

The University of Crete Library has secured a trial access to ProQuest's Academic Complete database from 26 February to 26 April 2024.

This is a collection of electronic books covering many scientific fields with more than 234,000 titles from a variety of publishers (more than 170 of which are university presses).

Many (around 33,900) titles do not have digital rights management (DRM) attached to them. While the vast majority of the ebooks are in English, Academic Complete does include access to approximately 19,300 non-English titles in more than 40 different languages.

In a simple and pleasant interface, users can search for books on the following topics (alphabetically):

[+] THE LIBRARY IS CLOSED under the measures for coronavirus
We would like to inform you that as part of the measures to prevent the transmission of coronavirus, the Library, as a gathering place for individuals, will remain closed to the public.
 
Library return dates are moved accordingly.
 
All Library electronic resources are normally accessible remotely, for all University of Crete members who are connected to the Internet via the Institution's VPN network.

[+] Library re-opening on 05/10/2020

Since 5th of October 2020 the University Library continues to serve only for borrowing material (by appointment) and returning material  the members of the Institution.

OPENING HOURS:

The opening hours for borrowing and returning material are 09.00 – 17.00, from Monday to Friday, 09.00 – 15.00, on Saturday.

 SPECIAL FUNCTION CONDITIONS:

The Library will serve all the members of the academic community.

The users are not  permitted  to stay in the Library building ( the studying areas and all the service points will remain closed for the Library public) apart from the Library reception, showing necessarily their university identity card (or university verification form).

The Library users are obliged to follow all the necessary safety measures in order to avoid the contagion of COVID-19 (the use of a protective mask is mandatory). In case of waiting, they must keep 2 m. distance from each other, follow the signs and obey the staff instructions.

BORROWING MATERIAL :

The users must send a request via the special application form, and then they can borrow the requested material only by appointment, made by the staff:

  1. The users search the books they need in the Online Library Catalogue
  2. Fill in the application form with the necessary fields (book title, classification number, barcode)
  3. The library staff, keeping order of priority, collects the books and informs the users that they can visit the library arranging at the same time an appointment. The Library users must not visit the Library unless they have received the message of arrangement.
  4. All the members can borrow books depending their status (undergraduates, postgraduates,erasmus etc)  

HOW TO RENEW YOUR BORROWED MATERIAL

For this period Library patrons are requested  to renew their borrowed material  by sending  a request to the following addresses: circ-ret@lib.uoc.gr (for Rethymno) or circ-her@lib.uoc.gr (for Heraklio) – mentioning their Name, Faculty and Registration number.

Their request will be accepted only if it is sent:

  1. From their Uoc academic e-mail
  2. Three (3) days before the due date of the books

Patrons will be informed by the Circulation service when their request is carried out.

RETURNING MATERIAL:

α) In person: the books are delivered at the Library reception during opening hours (09.00-17.00, from Monday to Friday, 09.00-15.00, on Saturday).

It is not required an appointment for returning material

The Library will keep a list of names of the persons that return books.

Β) Due to the special conditions, returning material is permitted by courier (on sender’s charge) to the Circulation Service of the corresponding Library of the user. The Library will inform the user about receiving the material as soon as the package is open (after the time period of quarantine has expired)

The returned material is kept isolated in a special room for specific time, depending on the material cover type: 3 days for paper cover, 10 days for plasticised cover. After the expiration time of isolation, the books are placed on shelves and are again available for new loan to users.

RETURNING ‘EUDOXUS’ MATERIAL:

For ‘EUDOXUS’ material that was received by mistake, the users will follow the same procedure as returning material (in person or by courier). In both cases it is necessary for us to know the student’s surname, his/her Department and his/her registration number)

PHOTOCOPY - PRINT - SCAN 

Library patrons can photocopy or scan (must have personal memory stick) material that cannot be checked out, such as Reference material, journals etc. They have to request the material they will copy via the special application form. They can also print material available via web pages or personal material using personal memory sticks. 

Charges: photocopy 0.04€, print 0.05€, scan 0.01€ /per page

MASTER OR PHD THESIS DEPOSIT:

Master or Phd theses are received into the Library as follows:

Α) In person, delivering also the relevant Deposit form:

b) By email (in pdf or ms-word format), via the relevant form (submit work) of the E-Locus Institutional Repository. Then the user must send by courier not only the master or  phd thesis in print form but also the (signed) application form.

As soon as the Library receives both forms of work (print and electronic) sends the relevant verification to the corresponding Secretariat.
