The European Documentation Center (EDC) was founded on July the 20th 1999 with a common decision of the University of Crete and the European Commission. It is a library service department and cooperates closely with the departments of the University that offer courses that deal with the European Union.
Location and opening hours

The European Documentation Center is on the second floor of the Central Library in Rethymno.
Opening Hours are identical with the library opening hours (09:00 to 20:00).
The EDC material is freely accessible by the end-user. The end-user may also get helped by the appropriate staff from 9:00 to 14:30 daily. Only a part of the EDC collection (monographs, series, papers) may be charged out to the users. In that case the loan period is 3 days. The rest of the EDC material may be used in the reading room of the library.
Because a large part of the EDC material exists in electronic format, users before coming to the Library may communicate with Library staff in order to get help on how to access a required issue from the available databases.
